Thanks for Everything, Mom

What more can I say about motherhood that hasn’t already been printed, quoted, or shouted from the rooftops a million times since man began celebrating this precious role? Some of us have great mothers, some bad, and some people aren’t lucky enough to have that woman in their lives nearly long enough. Media loves to bombard us with the cookie-cutter images of what a good mother must look like, what she must say and do, and what our relationships with them should feel like (Hint: think of a soft-focus commercial for certain hygiene products. Flowers, white sweaters, and calm, wise motherly advice with never a hair out of place). And according to standard Mother’s Day fare, everybody’s Mom is in need of a bouquet of flowers, a generic box of assorted chocolates, and an even more generic greeting card, usually chosen at the last minute at your local store. THE MAN CRUSH

  Is it ok for a guy to have a “man crush” on another guy?   Well to answer this question, first we are going to have to figure out what that phrase means.  You have heard it in movies and in the media.  One of the radio shows I listen to all the time talks about it constantly.  Mike Greenberg from the ‘Mike and Mike Show’ on ESPN proudly brags about his crush on Mark Sanchez the QB for the New York Jets.  The man crush is all over the place and I want to explore it a little bit. Guys get into trouble when they think with their penis instead of their brains.  Does it happen?  Yes.  Is it every guy?  No.  These guys need to keep their junk in their pants…it is making all of us look bad. Sanctuary: A Walk Through a No-Kill Refuge

I’d like to introduce my newer friends to Rikki’s Refuge, an amazing organization located in Orange, Virginia.  I’ve had the privilege of visiting and volunteering over several years, and it is truly an experience not to be missed.  Over 1200 creatures are housed there.  Each has their own story of how they came to be rescued, but once they reach the refuge, they find a forever home.
